Lost cause
LOST CAUSE

Definition: Something that has failed or that cannot succeed.

* All six elements would be in.


1. All chances have been exhausted. That is, necessary rethinking and retries were made.

2. All options have been explored. That is, all efforts were applied. In other words, it was chased

3. No possibility of a miracle or favourable freak of nature or magic ! That is, finality of impossibility certain.

4. Failure is not applauded. Or the unlikelihood of success cannot be rewarded. And a 'second' attempt will not be made after a failure. Or a new effort that is likely to fail will not be made.

5. No borrowed resource or time will be deployed or channeled towards trying to still achieve or to revive thing.

6. There was, or there will be, a loss as a direct result of the cause (= thing) that was lost (= failed), whether a lesson is learned or not in or from the situation, only if believed in !
