| NOSTALGIA Definitions: i. A feeling of sadness mixed with pleasure and affection when you think of happy times in the past. ii. Sentimental longing for past times. iii. Homesickness. ______________________________________________________________________ * All nine elements should be in. 1. Purposeful, even if not quite necessary. 2. Deliberately cultivated, in a conscious state. 3. Sadness is from the realization of the impossibility of reliving the very best of the past (to emphasize, see definition). 4. Pleasure and affection arises from a recall of the life lived - happily and joyfully, peaceful and problem-free, simple and convenient, safe and easy, etc. 5. Usually intense but inevitably temporary (connect to #6). That is, not allowed to get in the way of the future. 6. Recall lasts for a reasonable period, ... before you are brought back to reality, whatever the deja vu experience. 7. Feeling leads to a positive action (or necessary inaction) or reaction, at the time of remembrance (= the present). 8. Nothing important is left unattended to while in 'reverie'. 9.
