| RETRENCHMENT (1) Definition: (Australian English, New Zealand English, South African English) The act of telling somebody that they cannot continue working for you. ______________________________________________________________________ * All ten elements would be in. 1. Purposeful, from employer's point of view. 2. Considered necessary to lay worker off. 3. There is a justification - low or declining productivity of employee, 'rightsizing', economic stringency, etc., - for action, in the estimation of employer. 4. You inform person in advance! That is, there is availability of funds and a readiness to settle worker immediately 'letter' of sack is delivered (to emphasize). 6. No illegality is committed in the process (to emphasize). 7. You are prepared to give appropriate recommendation for soon-to-be ex-employee to seek fortunes (= employment) elsewhere. 8. Action achieves objective(s). 9. What laid off worker was responsible for does not suffer as a result of his/her being relieved of the appointment. 10.
