| SECURITY COUNCIL Definition: (usually - the Security Council) The part of the United Nations that tries to keep peace and order in the world, consisting of representatives of fifteen countries. ______________________________________________________________________ * All eight elements should be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary - troubleshooting. 2. Selection/rotation of members is equitable and justifiable. 3. No permanent members; methinks, all 'men' are created equal. 4. No member (= country) abstains or walks out during a vote - a stand for good (peace) or evil ('war') must be taken. 5. No veto is exercised by any or some of the fifteen - that'll be a threat in practice. And no demand will be on for its reform. 6. Never authorizes or supports violence to resolve an issue or settle a disagreement; persuasive, not warmongering. That is, does not ordinarily endorse confrontation, threat or sanction. 7. Countries represented in Council are relatively peaceful. 8. Achieves purpose(s).
